Who We Are

SHOUTOUT NEWSPAPER
ShoutOut newspaper is a widely read and recognized resource for teens on California's Central Coast. ShoutOut is written by and for teens and features in-depth reporting on cutting edge issues, personal essays and day-in-the life documentaries, photo journals, poetry and all sorts of other great information. The ShoutOut web site lets us share the stories, articles and artwork from each edition of the ShoutOut newspaper with our close neighbors and beyond.
As teen journalists for ShoutOut we have our fingers on the pulse of what is really going on in the schools, on the streets and after hours. Our paper comes out every three months and has a distribution of 12,000. In every edition of ShoutOut, we take our readers on a walk through issues such as the struggles of being a recent immigrant, the everyday reality of a 15 year old raising a baby, and the responsibility of mentoring younger teens to go to college. ShoutOut is also filled with images and information about the local scene, from interviews and photo journals of local musicians to the growing influence of hip hop art. As you browse through this web site, we hope you enjoy learning more about our community, the experiences of youth today, who we are and what we have to say.
ShoutOut newspaper and our web site are produced by Strategic Health Communications (SHC), a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting healthy behaviors in California. SHC's Central Coast Project is working with the local community to reduce teen pregnancy rates and improve adolescent health and nutrition through media, teen-to-teen education and parent workshops. We are based in the small town of Watsonville, located in Santa Cruz County.
